Latest news from the Grace Foundation Trust

Happy New Year from Edith and her team

This is the first edition of the email Newsletter which we will be sending out quarterly throughout the year. We will endeavour to keep you in touch with all the work at the Grace Foundation Trust (GFT) Health Centre in Mbengwi, Cameroon.

Thank you to all those who supported the African Fun Day in Brent Knoll last September and kindly gave their consent to receive these Newsletters. We were delighted with the offers of help and will be following these up in the next few months.

In Mbengwi, since the initial opening of the Health Centre in April 2013, we regularly visit the local villages, including schools, churches and community organisations, with information about the help that is available at the Centre. The barriers of scepticism and lack of understanding of ailments and antenatal provision are being broken down and this has led to an increase in clients. From October to December 2017 the Health Centre received a total of 528 clients. This included:

107 admissions (there are 21 beds and 6 maternity beds)

86 children treated for various conditions

25 mothers attending antenatal care

11 babies delivered and

44 children attending the vaccination and infant welfare department.

Speaking with the Doctor, he said there is an urgent need for a portable ultrasound machine in the clinic. At the moment the patients are referred to the city hospital but unfortunately the availability of transport is limited and often too costly for many patients to reach the city.

We would welcome any equipment at the centre, but at the moment we particularly need:
1. A portable ultrasound 2. An ECG machine  and 3. A diagnostic microscope.

We should also bring to your attention the political situation in Cameroon. In recent months, significant unrest between the English speaking Southern Cameroon and the French speaking area has escalated.  This is impacting on the everyday running of the Health Centre. We need your prayers as we go into 2018 above everything.

Blessings from all the team at Edith’s Dream. Thank you
